7 Steps to Getting Glass Skin
Written by Fadi Mourad
Glass Skin is a lovely term that derived from the Korean beauty industry and refers to a complexion that’s smooth, clear and so hydrated that it’s practically as-smooth-as-glass and glowing. In this article, we're going to explore what you can do to achieve your glass skin look.
The 7-Step Glass Skin Routine
The interwebs are filled with a wealth of advice on skincare routines that are designed to level up your skincare game to achieve a variety of skin goals. We've distilled down all that advice (so you don't have to). and we've come up with the 7 ultimate steps that are most consistently recommended to leave your skin as smooth as a baby's bottom. Let's getting into it.
1. Double Cleanse
Before you do anything, you need to start with a clean base. This is especially important at night when you need to remove makeup, as well as any dirt and grime that’s built up on the skin throughout the day. To ensure you get that deep-down clean, it’s worth double cleansing. To begin, start by using an oil-based makeup remover or micellar water to remove makeup and anything else on the surface of the skin. Then simply follow it up with a cleanser that’s suitable for your skin type.
2. Exfoliate
Exfoliation is the next step in our glass skin routine, as it’s perfect for getting rid of dead skin cells that escaped the double cleanse and can ultimately clog pores. You can either use a physical exfoliant like a gentle face scrub or a chemical exfoliant such as glycolic acid. Try not to overdo the exfoliation or you risk irritating the skin. Also remember that exfoliation shouldn’t really be a daily thing. Two or three times per week should do it.
3. Toner
As glass skin is our goal here, it’s time to stop skipping the toner. Toners are a great way to remove any final traces of makeup and dirt from the skin, whilst balancing your PH. Toners also help your skin absorb the products you apply in later steps, allowing your skin to truly reap the benefits.
4. Essence and Serum
Next up are your essences and serums. We do this now so these products are closest to the surface of the skin for full absorption. Depending on your unique skincare concerns, you can choose essences and serums to address those issues e.g. reducing redness, boosting hydration, or fighting signs of aging.
5. Moisturize
For your glass skin routine, choose a moisturizer that’s light and absorbs quickly. Don’t forget to use a dedicated eye cream to keep this delicate area fully hydrated.
6. SPF In the Morning
This applies to your morning routine. Obviously at night you can skip this step. Every skincare specialist cannot mention this enough. The sun will find your skin in the day, somehow it just does. To reduce the effect of the sun’s harmful rays, and the appearance of aging, use a minimum of SPF 30. Over-exposure to the sun’s rays will keep your glass skin very well hidden!
7. Clay Masks
Finally, once or twice per week, incorporate a clay mask into your skincare routine. This is crucial element in your glass skin quest because it’ll absorb excess oil, fight blemishes, and give a youthful glow. That said, not all clay masks are created equal. Be informed about key clay mask ingredients and the kind of masks that are right for your skin type and for the current condition of your skin.
Finally, outside of this bullet proof 7 step routine, you can help your skin along but making or reinforcing some simple lifestyle choices. For instance, make sure you’re eating healthy fats, fruits, and veggies. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and don’t forget to get your beauty sleep every night to look and feel fabulous.
